***UPDATE***
England Boxing have confirmed that they will remove the rule preventing people with facial hair from competing in the sport.
This amendment will commence at the start of the new season on 1st June 2018.
Following a review of the England Boxing policies as the organisation aims to become more inclusive, Rule 9.1.5 (All boxers must be clean shaven (including moustaches)) will no longer apply and will be removed from the rule book.
However, boxers are reminded that safety remains a priority and are urged to make themselves aware of Rule 9.5.1 concerning hair in general.
This rule states that any hair should not affect the conduct of the bout and the prohibited items for hair control (including hairpins, clips or any devices made of metal, plastic or other handmade material considered inappropriate by the referee or supervisor) will also now apply to facial hair.
This change only applies to domestic level competitions, but England Boxing will continue to lobby AIBA to get the rule changed at international level.
