Larches and Savick ABC Boxers, Billie-Jean Franks and Bria Fielding, both reached the final of the England Youth Boxing Championships in Durham last week.
The pair booked their trip to the North East thanks to resounding victories in the North West area Championships.
The pair, who are both 16 and share the same birthday, performed brilliantly to reach the final of their respective weight categories.
In the 51Kg category, Billie Jean was defeated by the favourite Ebonie Jones. Coach Dave Fitzgerald said, “Ebonie Jones is a twice European Champion and a five time ABA champion- this was the fifth title on the run.”
“Billie Jean got out pointed, but she certainly did not show herself up and I think she might get a call up for the GB team now. Billie did a damned sight better against Ebonie than any of the other girls in previous bouts.”
Bria Fielding also performed well in te 60Kg category and was thwated from winning the competition by Ellie Scotney in the final.
“Bria outpointed the four time ABA champion in the semi-final but then lost to Scotney, who is from Lymm Boxing Club”, said Fitzgerald.
Dave Fitzgerald added, “Bria did well and I was really proud of them both. It’s a massive achievement for the club. I think we were the only club to have two boxers in the final, so it’s great”.
