GB Boxing star Lisa Whiteside took time out from training this week to visit Waterloo Lodge school in Chorley, where she met local children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
The children had a chance to see Lisa’s medals, which include European Union gold, European Championship silver and World Championship bronze, and find out about the challenges faced by an elite athlete.
Lisa, who represents Larches and Savick Boxing Club in Preston and holds an impressive four national senior titles, said: ‘These children aren’t in mainstream education and face their own challenges in life, so it was great to be able to tell them my story and talk to them about achieving my goals at times when I’ve been dealing with difficulties in my own life.
‘I showed them some videos of me boxing and had a chance to chat to the children and sign some autographs. It was an honour to be invited to the school and I hope I have helped to inspire the pupils to follow their own goals.’
