Top Award for Club’s Coach

Larches and Savick Boxing Coach, Dave Fitzgerald, has won the prestigious North West Senior Coach of the Year award.

Lisa Whiteside and Scott Fitzgerald also won recognition awards, for their achievements to date.

England NW Boxing made the awards at a prestigious event in Manchester.   The North West Region is the largest region in England covering the Counties of Cheshire, Cumbria. Greater Manchester, Isle of Man, Lancashire& Tameside, with a total of 96 England Boxing affiliated clubs.

Dave Fitzgerald, together with Joe Kilshaw and Jimmy Moon, started the Larches and Savick Boxing Club in 2002. Only last year it reopened into a £350,000 purpose built facility.

The club now has three team GB members with Bria Fielding joining Lisa Whiteside and Scott Fitzgerald as part of the Team GB squad.

Dave Fitzgerald said, “When many clubs would be proud to have just one member as part of the GB set up it is quite something for the club to have three members of the squad. It is a great reflection of the quality of coaching here from all the coaches.”

Dave added, “ It is a great honour to receive this award as there are other coaches across the region with incredible credentials.”

Scott Fitzgerald and Lisa Whiteside also won recognition awards for their achievements to date. Scott Fitzgerald won gold in the welterweight division in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Lisa Whiteside will be competing at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in South Korea in November. Lisa won bronze in the championships in 2012. She is also an EU boxing gold medalist.
